When you want a cider that’s got more to it than the mainstream brands, but without the astringency of the traditional brews, then Merrydown is the perfect cider for you. Smooth, perfectly balanced and refreshing, we only use juicy eating apples to give Merrydown its unique big-appley taste that sets it apart from the crowd. Always the ideal accompaniment to your relaxing moment – go on, enjoy your Merrydown time…
Smooth, crisp Merrydown cider was created by friends Jack Ward, Ian Howle and John Kelland-Knight at Jack’s Merrydown farm house, back in 1946. They each put in £100 to turn Jack’s wine making hobby into a business and produced their first batch of Merrydown Apple Wine by fermenting 450 gallons of apple juice using a 300 year-old oak cider press borrowed from a farmer. Nine years later, production had risen to 400,000 gallons.
Today, Merrydown is still made true to the recipe created by the three Sussex pals, who used to enjoy nothing more than to kick back with a well-earned glass of their own delicious apple brew. Fresh eating apples, hand-picked from carefully selected orchards and no artificial colours, flavourings or sweeteners make it the perfect cider for enjoying your relaxing moment. So sit back, get your feet up and indulge in a little of your own Down time.
